📰 Field to Table Articles of Interest 📰
This week’s Article of Interest is Arlington’s TRAC newsletter. Keep up to date on all things Arlington public transportation!
Find their Winter Biking Tips Below!

1. Set Your Limits
Make decisions that make sense for your lifestyle and comfort level, such as avoiding days when temperatures are below freezing or when it snows. Fortunately, most Arlington winter days don’t meet either condition.
2. Safety Checks
Cold temperatures lower tire pressure, so check your tires more frequently to avoid an untimely flat. Winter also means fewer daylight hours, so make sure you have front and rear lights for visibility and are wearing light color or reflective clothing.
3. Layer Your Clothing
Avoid bulky coats, which can cause you to overheat quickly. Instead, layer lighter-weight clothes you can add or remove as your body temperature adjusts. Start with a lightweight base layer, such as Merino wool (avoid cotton, which absorbs sweat), then add a lightweight hoodie or fleece and a windproof outer layer. These layers create mini air pockets that trap heat and keep you comfortable throughout your ride.
4. Cover Your Extremities
Fingers and toes can quickly go numb in the cold, so gloves are essential and can be layered with a liner for added warmth. For your feet, leg gaiters or shoe covers help circulation and keep toes warm, though thick socks are a good start. Covering your ears and face is also important, so consider a balaclava (similar to a ski mask) or a hat with a face mask on especially cold days.

If you answered the poll above, the answer is Madeleines! These cookies were the first that Chef Patrice learned how to bake as a child in Southern France!
Having been a part of Field to Table’s farmers markets for 7 years, J’aime Madeleine is a staple at Westover, Fairlington, and Lubber Run farmers markets!
👨🍳 Founded by Chef Patrice, former French Embassy Executive Chef, White House Chef, and winner of Iron Chef, J’aime Madeleine has been with the farmers markets for over 7 years!
🇫🇷 After turning to baking some of his French classics from his work as a Chef, Patric has perfected…
Colorfully flavored glazed madeleines, warm beignets, freshly made crepes, and more at the markets!

The weekly challenge will be posted in the newsletter and Instagram, which can be found, here!

Donate to the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) at our Market Tables
Field to Table has partnered with the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) to have donation boxes available each week at all farmers markets. Support the Arlington community by donating nonperishable food items (no glass, please) at our markets. Learn more.
AFAC is in most need of canned fruits, canned tuna, canned soups, canned vegetables, canned tomatoes, peanut butter (in a plastic jar), cereal, and plastic water bottles!
